paysafecard Review 2026

Prepaid voucher for online payments

3.4

Our verdict

paysafecard is not a multi-currency account. It is a prepaid code you buy with cash and spend online with a 16-digit PIN, so the merchant never sees your bank or card details. For anyone who already has a bank account or a neobank card, the question is when that privacy is worth the fees and limits.

Those fees and limits differ by country, and each paysafecard country site publishes its own. Below are the figures from the UK, Irish and German sites. All three charge a monthly service fee on codes that still hold credit after a while, which is the main cost to plan around.

paysafecard fees and limits by country

UK (GBP)Ireland (EUR)Germany (EUR)

Max per payment with an account£1,000€1,000Not listed on the page we checked
Service fee on a code with credit left£4 a month from the 2nd month€4 a month from the 2nd month€4 a month, first charged 30 days after purchase
Account inactivity fee£5 a month from the 13th month€5 a month from the 13th month€2 a month from the 13th month
Refund (paying out remaining credit)£6 per refund€7.50 per refund5% (max €5) per refund

Each paysafecard site also says a fee applies to payments that involve a currency conversion, without stating the percentage. In the US, codes are closed-loop gift cards issued by The Bancorp Bank, with retail fees from $1.49 and a $2 monthly fee only after 24 months of inactivity.

Verdict for bank and neobank users

paysafecard makes sense for one job: paying a site you would rather not give your card details to, with a fixed amount you have already set aside. Buy a code close to the amount you plan to spend and use it within the first month; the £4 or €4 monthly service fee and the £6 / €7.50 refund charge make it a poor place to leave money.

Pay in the code’s own currency, because conversion fees apply and are not published. If you want a reusable account instead, the Irish PaysafeWallet lists a free Start plan with a 2% conversion fee and a Plus plan at €36 a year with 1%, still well above what a neobank or Wise charges for currency exchange.

Very secure and easy to find vouchers in Europe. But if you don't use the pin balance within a year, they start charging a monthly maintenance fee.

Great for small payments, but the vouchers are hard to use for large online transactions since you can only combine a limited number of PINs.
